As uncertainty continues for federal government employees — including tens of thousands of employees from Montgomery County — leaders are looking into ways to provide resources and information to affected workers.
Leaders are looking into assisting federal employees either in-person or on Zoom, “if they need information about unemployment, or information about rental assistance,” County Council President Kate Stewart said during a media briefing Monday.
There are a number of different needs, Stewart said. She noted that in Montgomery County, about 70,000 residents work for the federal government, not including contractors.
Stewart said that given the large number of federal employees in the county and “the great deal of uncertainty,” right now leaders want to make sure information is available, working along with federal, state, and local partners.
There are resources related to workforce development — as well as related to immigration, LGBTQ+ support, and food services — listed on the county council’s website.
Stewart encouraged anyone with questions to reach out to councilmembers directly via contact information found on the council website.
